Vetiver Essential oil (Vetiveria zizanoides)
Vetiver Essential oil reminds me of walking into those stores that have incense, anime characters, and display swords on the wall behind the counter. You have one of those in your local mall, right? It's a hodgepodge of Asian dishes, ornate chess pieces, and salt and pepper shakers of animals and dragons. In the back there is usually a wall of printed t-shirts and blankets with wolves howling at the moon and stuff.
If you don't have one of those stores you should find one. They are entertaining and full of hidden gems. I love exploring them.
Usually in the front corner they have a stand full of different incenses. The combination off all the incense can be overwhelming but I pick up an deep earthy scent that's almost bitter. That's what Vetiver reminds me of. The earthy, deep, and almost bitter scent.
I've diffused this oil on it's own, but it really shines when paired with other oils. Like Cedarwood, Juniper, Bergamot, and/or Orange Essential oils.
Mr. Everything requested this oil after sampling it at a Young Living event. He loves the smell. It was a smell that had to grow on me, and honestly using an Essential oil isn't dependent on if you like the scent. It's all about what the oil will do for you. In the case of Vetiver I love how it helps me relax and I notice I sleep better if we've diffuse it before bed. I pair it with one or more of the above mentioned oils and diffuse them while getting ready for bed. It's a great way to unwind after a long day and I've grown to love this oil.
